Training for the Half and Full Marathon

Join us at 6 a.m. every Saturday morning beginning in October at the Trak Shak in Homewood for free group training supported by the Trak Shak and the Birmingham Track Club (BTC). Runners and walkers of all skill levels are welcome. The group is led by the BTC Long Run Coordinator, Monica Henley assisted by running veterans, Alex Morrow and Jeff Martinez. (Stay tuned for exact beginning day in October.)

A beginner-level 20 week marathon and 19 week half marathon training schedule is provided with room to build in cross training, speed work, tempo or hills to fit your skill level. We recommend that you be able to complete a 5k or can run 10 miles per week to begin the half marathon training and that you can complete a 10K, or run 15 miles per week to begin the marathon training.

Water and Powerade are provided every 2 - 3 miles by volunteers. Follow the group and receive weekly invitations here. E-mail mhenley1113@gmail.com or Jeff@trakshak.com with any questions.

Don't forget to register for the Regions SuperHero 5k to shake your legs out the day before the big race. We can't wait to see you at the finish line in February!
